Zagreb
The capital and biggest city in Croatia is packed with all sorts of activities for you to explore.
To get a quick feel for the city, we advise starting your adventure at the Ban Jelačić Square – the central point of the town and most common meeting place for locals (you will easily observe many people waiting “under the clock”). Proceed to the Upper Town by following the stairs right there from the square or take a short 5-minute walk down the Ilica street (longest street in the city) to reach the funicular – one of the shortest in the world! Climb the Lotrščak tower for breathtaking views of the city, and visit the St. Mark’s church nearby to marvel at its stunning roof. You will probably notice the towers of the Zagreb cathedral in the distance and, if you’re lucky, at least one of them might finally have finished its renovation. Complete this short tour in a very Croatian fashion – by sitting down for a long coffee or drink in one of the many cafés and bars around the city center.
As the sun sets, the lively nightlife awakens and goes on for most of the night. Find the highest concentration of bars and clubs in the Tkalčićeva street or around the Jarun lake. If you’re arriving in winter, make sure you don’t miss the Christmas market in the city center, voted best in Europe three years in a row!
